About Me
Ashley Collins is a writer, poet, and artist from Memphis, Tennessee. Her practice focuses on elevating the voices of Black women who have had their stories consistently erased from history. Much of her previous work has been fiction prose relating to both the fantasy genre as well as realistic fiction covering instances of trauma. During her time as MFA writer, she has shifted focus to writing poetry. In her poems, she explores various themes relating to the physical nature of the body, the body’s connection to the natural world as well as themes of breaking free from oppressive toxic relationships. Her current project focuses on the way Black women have been consistently mistreated, abused, and have had their pain invalidated by the oppressive forces of the white-dominated medical industry.
